Overview
In our mission to foster an Independent, Democratic, and Egalitarian Kenya, we’ve developed two essential tools to support community engagement and democratic processes. These tools serve distinct but complementary functions under the M-KURA platform:
- The Oracle - A forum for community discussions and collaboration.
- The Parliament Space - An interactive Space for legal consultation and public voting on legislative proposals.
These tools empower the community to engage in open dialogue, share insights, and directly influence legislative matters by participating in opinion polling, generating petitions, and connecting with legislative authorities.
Tool 1: The Oracle - Community and Discussion Forum
The Oracle is M-KURA's community forum, designed as a space for users to engage in discussions, share knowledge, and build connections. This platform is central to the M-KURA community's mission of collaboration, transparency, and empowerment. Here, users can:
- Discuss pressing topics on governance, decentralization, and justice in Kenya.
- Contribute ideas, proposals, and feedback to shape M-KURA’s direction.
- Build a strong, informed community aligned with M-KURA’s core values of openness and democracy.
By fostering dialogue through The Oracle, members are encouraged to become active participants, creating a culture of continuous learning and collaboration.
Tool 2: The Parliament Space - Legislative Opinion Polling and Petition System
The Parliament Space tool allows community members to voice their support or opposition to specific legislative bills under consideration in the Kenyan Parliament. This tool is customized to enhance civic participation, giving legal experts and everyday citizens the ability to gauge public opinion on legislative matters.
Key Features:
- Vote on Legislation: Community members can choose to support or reject bills that affect Kenya’s future. Each user’s vote reflects their stance, contributing to a collective response on important issues.
- Automated Petition Creation: After casting their vote, users are prompted to send an email petition to relevant authorities with their decision. This petition represents a formal request for action based on the user’s vote.
- Customizable Email Templates: Proposal creators have access to pre-designed email templates for each voting choice. These templates guide users in submitting their petitions, including optional personalization fields:
- Required Field:
{name}
(user's name). - Optional Fields:
{idno}
(ID number) and{ward}
(user’s ward). If users opt out of providing these, they are flagged as REDACTED.
- Required Field:
Users can then send the fully prepared petition to relevant authorities in just one click, using their local email client.
Example Email Template for Voting Choices:
This example demonstrates the format proposal creators will use when creating email templates for each voting option. Each choice aligns with a specific email template, providing clarity and consistency.

The proposal creator should ensure that each template is correctly indexed to match each vote option and includes appropriate links and detailed information regarding the vote. This approach allows users to make an informed decision and participate directly in the democratic process by reaching out to officials with their preferences.
